Coliving & Coworking at Surfbreak: My Perfect Day in Puerto Escondido

Claire, a freelance copywriter and Surfbreak coliving member, smiling at the coliving space in Puerto Escondido

When Claire, a freelance copywriter from the Netherlands, first arrived at Surfbreak PXM, she was simply looking for a quiet place to work and recharge. What she found was something deeper—a space that supported her productivity, sparked new client opportunities, and reminded her what it feels like to live with intention. In her own words, Surfbreak gave her “the space to focus and the people to inspire me.” In this guest blog, Claire shares what a perfect day in Puerto Escondido looks like when you’re coliving, coworking, and embracing the slow, grounded rhythm of life at Surfbreak. Starting with The Sun

"The sun wakes me up. No alarm, no snooze button, no rush. Just the warm morning light sneaking through the shutters. I feel rested, even energized. Which says a lot, because mornings and I are usually on shaky terms. But here, at Surfbreak, it’s different. I toss off the covers and head to the bathroom. A cold shower? Back home in the Netherlands, I’d say “hell to the no”. But here? It’s the perfect kickstart to my day.

Downstairs, the kitchen is slowly coming to life - a mix of calm vibes and low-key buzz. There’s always someone already getting a coffee, happy to chat for a bit. I whip up a smoothie with yogurt, fresh fruit, and some almond milk from the communal stash. While I’m leaning against the counter, listening to the blender whir, I strike up a conversation with a fellow coliver. We discuss plans for the day, and someone suggests we take a Bachata dance class tonight. I nod immediately. Sounds like a great plan.

A Work Day at It's Best

After breakfast, it’s time to get to work. I’ve got a meeting planned with a client and a couple of deadlines staring me down. But no stress, ‘cause the coworking spaces here are a dream. Bright, spacious, and designed to help you get sh*t done. The Wi-Fi? Faster than light, and honestly, way better than you’d expect for Puerto Escondido. And when the power goes out (because that happens here occasionally), the generator kicks in before you even have time to swear.

But today, I feel like switching things up. So, I grab my laptop and head to the rooftop terrace. Up there, the view is insane. Blue skies stretching forever, with the sound of waves crashing in the distance. Working here doesn’t feel like work. It feels almost unfairly good. Between writing, emails, and meetings, I sip on my coffee. This - this right here - is exactly why I chose this lifestyle.

Lunchtime Vibes

By noon, the kitchen’s buzzing. A few people are cooking up lunch with the shared ingredients - eggs, granola, fresh fruit. You can hear pots, pans, and casual conversations all blending together. Some head out to explore local restaurants in Puerto Escondido. I stay in and fry up an egg. Someone excitedly shares stories from their first surfing lesson. Another person heads off to yoga. And then there’s always that one person who decides it’s time for a power nap. What a life, right? Everyone here just finds their own flow, and that’s what makes it so relaxing. It’s easy to feel at home here.

Golden Hour

After work, I shut my laptop, grab a towel, and head out. Every evening, we gather at the beach - just a one-minute walk away - to catch the sunset. It’s become a sacred tradition, no matter how your day went. The colors in the sky shift so fast, from fiery orange to pink to deep purple. Some people take one last swim in the ocean, but I’m happy just sitting there, my butt in the sand. Soaking it all in. The view, the calm, the sound of the waves. Sand between my toes. These are the moments you carry with you forever.

The Perfect Evening

After sunset, the same question always comes up: “What’s the plan for dinner?” Usually, a group heads out to one of Puerto Escondido’s many cozy restaurants - seriously, the food here rarely disappoints. But tonight, I’m also staying in. I’ve got that Bachata class later. Time to let loose, dance like nobody’s watching, sweat it out, and laugh until my cheeks hurt. It’s the perfect way to end the day.

What Makes Surfbreak So Special

Back at the house after dance class, the vibe is just right - chilled yet full of energy. A few people are curled up on the couch for a movie night, while others are getting ready to hit the town for some late-night dancing. Everyone does their own thing, and that freedom is what makes this place so special. It’s not just a house - it’s like a mini-community. A place that feels like home, even though you’re thousands of miles away.

As I crawl into bed later that night, I feel content. Not just because of what I did today, but because of how I feel here. Surfbreak isn’t just a place to stay, work, or relax. It’s a place where you learn, grow, and feel free to be yourself. It’s like it was made by people like me, for people like me.

I fall asleep, feeling grateful. Tomorrow’s a new day. But right now? I’m exactly where I need to be."
