Why Surfbreak PXM is Puerto Escondido’s Best Coliving and Coworking Space for Digital Nomads
Updated: 14 hours ago
Puerto Escondido, with its stunning beaches and vibrant culture, has become an increasingly attractive destination for digital nomads craving something more off the beaten path, a tropical escape with a surf town vibe. However, despite its beauty, the town has historically been known for a few challenges—most notably unreliable internet and basic infrastructure issues. This is where Surfbreak PXM steps in, offering a premium and professional coliving and coworking experience, specifically designed to eliminate these pain points that travellers and remote workers may find in more off-grid Mexico locations.
1. Reliable High-Speed Internet + Backup Power
One of the biggest challenges of working remotely from Puerto Escondido is staying connected when the local power grid goes down. At Surfbreak PXM, we’ve built redundancy into both our internet and power systems so members can work reliably.
Our villa is equipped with fiber-optic internet, Starlink backup, ethernet connections, and backup generators. Unlike backup batteries, which can only provide power for a limited period, our generators give us a more reliable solution during longer outages. That means you can keep working, taking calls, and staying connected even when the surrounding area loses power.
Our internet typically reaches speeds of 500+ Mbps download and 300+ Mbps upload, making the space well equipped for video calls, large uploads, streaming, and everyday remote work.
2. Drinkable Tap Water
Drinkable tap water isn't a given in Puerto Escondido. At Surfbreak PXM, we've invested in a whole-house water purification system, so purified water is available directly from the taps throughout the villa.
We also have a reverse-osmosis drinking water tap in the breakfast nook for an additional level of filtration. It's one less thing to think about when settling into everyday life in Puerto.
3. Solar-Powered Living
Our rooftop is lined with solar panels that help power our four-story villa while also providing shade for our rooftop coworking, BBQ, and social area overlooking the ocean.
It's part of our broader commitment to operating more thoughtfully in Puerto Escondido and reducing our environmental impact where we can.
4. A Villa Designed for Everyday Life
Surfbreak PXM is located between La Punta and Zicatela, putting beaches, restaurants, cafés, markets, nightlife, and some of Puerto Escondido's best-known surf within easy reach.
At home, you'll have a private furnished room, fully equipped kitchen, shared living spaces, rooftop work and social areas, an in-ground pool, and air conditioning in bedrooms and common areas.
We also help make getting around easier with connections to trusted local services, including car and scooter rentals and airport transportation.
5. Full A/C for Puerto's Tropical Climate
Puerto gets hot—and being able to cool down matters when you're actually living and working here rather than simply visiting for a few days.
Every private bedroom at Surfbreak PXM has air conditioning, along with our shared indoor living and working spaces, giving members comfortable places to work, sleep, and recharge throughout the day.
6. Community, Wellness, and Safety
The biggest difference between staying at Surfbreak and simply renting a room is the community around you.
Our local Community Managers help bring people together through shared meals, events, outings, workshops, skill-shares, and everyday life in the house. Members are also encouraged to contribute their own ideas, skills, and experiences to the community.
That ethos extends beyond our walls. We believe in being good members of the places we call home, with opportunities to volunteer, support local businesses, connect with the local comunidad, and leave Puerto better than we found it.
We also work with trusted local partners for experiences ranging from wellness to surfing, making it easier to discover Puerto through people who actually live here. We partner with SHRED for fitness classes and wellness events, giving you access to discounted sessions to stay active.
7. The Details are Taken Care of
Living somewhere for weeks or months is different from taking a vacation, so we've tried to take care of the details that make everyday life easier.
Your stay includes things like professional cleaning, fresh linens and toiletries, secure entry and room locks, dedicated coworking spaces, reliable internet and backup power, a fully equipped kitchen, and community programming.
The goal is simple: give you the infrastructure to work well, the freedom to experience Puerto Escondido, and a community to come home to.
8. Staying at Surfbreak PXM
Surfbreak Puerto Escondido has a minimum stay of one week, although shorter stays may occasionally be available. We recommend staying for at least a month when you can—it gives you time to settle into Puerto, establish a routine, and become part of the community rather than simply passing through.
Surfbreak is intentionally less transient than a hostel. Whether you're here for a few weeks or several months, the idea is to have enough time to know the people you're living with, find your rhythm, and experience what it actually feels like to live and work in Puerto Escondido.
We also offer discounted rates for longer stays, with 10% off stays of 2–3 months and 20% off stays of 4+ months. Shorter stays of 7–29 nights are available at our flexible nightly rate.
